  • Light chemical peels remove the epidermis, or outer layer of the skin. Light peels use mild acids like alpha-hydroxy acid, and they are great for removing fine wrinkles, uneven skin tones, and acne.
  • Medium chemical peels remove the epidermis and some of the dermis, or middle layer of the skin. Medium peels use trichloroacetic or glycolic acid, and they are used to penetrate deeper into the skin.
  • Deep chemical peels fully penetrate the middle layer of the skin to remove deeper skin cells. Deep peels typically apply phenol or trichloroacetic acid to get rid of deeper wrinkles, scars, and other damaged skin.

Chemical peels are commonly applied to the face and back but they can also be applied to the hands, arms, neck, or elsewhere in the body.
